Tuesday, January 21st at 6:00 pm: Tri-County Developmental Disabilities Outreach and Information Program
Kate Steigerwald, the Developmental Disabilities Outreach and Information Coordinator at Directions in Independent Living in Olean will be at the library to give a short presentation that focuses on engaging individuals and families of individuals with developmental disabilities that are living in Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua Counties, in order to inform individuals and families about, or connect them with programs and services that are available through The New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). These programs address the challenges associated with providing care and support for individuals with developmental disabilities.
The library will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20th in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

Did you hear that there’s going to be a Scarecrow Contest in Gowanda on the weekend of the 18/19th? There’ll also be a storytime, food crafts (marshmallow popcorn!), regular ol’ food and drink and pumpkin painting on Friday the 19th at the Gowanda Free Library! Storytime at 11:30, and crafts at 12pm!
The Gowanda Free Library would like to announce the completion of our Career and Job Resource Center, a project made possible by an Outreach Services grant from the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System.
Our prime initiative in our career center project was to develop a permanent library area dedicated to resources for job seekers, career exploration, college and trade school options, self-employment resources, career assessment, job and career tool resources (resume building, cover letters, interviews), and related exam preparation books. We have also implemented one-on-one staff assistance for those patrons who may require additional help in using the career computer workstation to apply for jobs, complete FAFSA applications, or do job searches. The current hours for this assistance are: Tuesdays: 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and Fridays: 10:30 am until 1:30 pm, September through December.
Although the first stage of this project is complete, we are currently working on providing in-house career and job placement services including computer literacy classes, GED assistance, and job readiness training. We are also planning on hosting a job fair for local area businesses. Look for updates here, as we progress with this project.
